Installing Two Windows® in One Harddisk Drive Without Dividing Partitions
I think many people(especially those in Hong Kong) have experienced this:
When you browse a homepage using English Windows 95, and you visit a web
site containing Chinese (or whatever languages). Then you open other software,
try to look at what is inside, and you find that the code is not suitable
for things homepage. And you would like to say, "..........."
In fact those things doesn't occur only in browsing homepage, but also
in using software. When you have bought a new software and try to open
it in your English Windows 95, and you get a lot of grabbage. I know English
Windows 95 is much efficient than Chinese or Japanese Windows 95. English
is faster because there is no need to care about Chinese and Japanese fonts
input methods, especially in bootup. But it is quite troublesome to open
other software and select the right code to view a homepage, or do whatever
other things.
In this case, you would like to install one more Windows 95. There
are actually some methods and software to do this, and maybe they are quite
good, but these methods are troublesome to use and the software are not
so easy for new users. Here are one of these methods:
Divide the harddisk to two partitions. Then install the two Windows
95 into two different logical drive. Use a batch to choose which Windows
95 you should use. It is a real troubnlesome thing: You have to use FDISK
to divide the harddisk drive into two logical drive, but this can be done
only when your harddisk is completely empty - without even an operating
system. There are some software do divide your harddisk drive into two
prtitiion without losing all data, but these software are not cheap! Why
should you pay so much for something that you will use only once?
And now I have got a method to install two Windows 95 into one harddisk
drive without dividing the harddisk into two partition. Below are detail
instruction:
-
Install your first Windows 95 (English is preferrable) inot a directory
called C:\EWIN95 (directory can be whatever else, but all the filename
used here are will be used in the batch below. If you use a new file name,
you have to edit the batch by yourselves).
-
Backup your config.sys, autoexec.bat, msdos.sys as config.eee, autoexec.eee
and msdos.eee. (All in C:\ directory)
-
Restart into MS-DOS mode by pressing F8 when you see the clause "Starting
Windows 95................", tehn choose "Command Prompt only". (If you
can't do this, edit C:\msdos.sys and change the string "Bootmulti=0"
to "Bootmulti=1" in it. If you can find such a string, just add "Bootmulti=1"
in it)
-
Install your Chinese Windows 95 into a directory called C:\win95\cwin95(BE
careful! You'd better not to install it into a directory called CWin95.
I haven't tried it yet and don't know if it works. If it does, please
.
-
Backup your config.sys, autoexec.bat and msdos sys as config.ccc, autoexec.ccc
and msdos.ccc. (Again all in C:\ directory).
-
Write a batch called ewinboot.bat Goto content
of ewinboot.bat
-
Write another batch called cwinboot.bat. Goto content
of cwinboot.bat
-
Restart your computer and enter Windows 95. Create a shortcut on your desktop
(This should be Chinese Windows 95, so please create a shortcut of ewinboot.bat).
-
Run your batch by double-clicking on the icon. Then restart your computer
by selecting "Restart the computer".
-
Then you are in English Windows 95 now!
Nice'n easy isn't it? It is much better than dividing your harddisk into
two partition. This method can be used to install three or even more Windows
95. The only limit is your harddisk capacity!
If you cannot install two Windows 95 properly, please delete your Chinese
Windows 95 and install English Windows 95 again.Then e-mail
me and tell me what has happened. If you live in Hong Kong, e-mail
me your phone number, and I'll try to phone you.
